SoHi goes 2-1 at Joe Floyd

The Soldotna boys finished the Joe Floyd Tournament in Kodiak with a 2-1 record on Saturday to take second place behind East.

On Saturday, the Stars finished up tournament play by defeating North Pole 67-62. Brook Carver led all scorers with 20 points while Brad Blossom had 18 points and Kelly Seggerman had 15 points.

On Friday, the Stars overcame a 40-36 deficit in the final 1:16 of the game for a victory. With 1:16 left, Tony Besse hit a free throw, then just six seconds later Besse hit a shot to make a 40-39. Blossom secured victory for the Stars with a basket with 30 seconds left.

Seggerman paced Soldotna in the defensive battle with nine points, while Michael Thomas had nine points for Kodiak.

Homer swept at Grace Christian Classic

The Homer boys basketball team lost all three of its games at the Grace Christian Classic in Anchorage.

In Saturday’s game, the Mariners lost to South 76-58. Taylor Layland led Homer with 18 points, while South’s Anthony Cousin had 23 points.

In Friday’s game, Homer lost to Bethel 70-58. Chase Powers had 23 points to lead Bethel, while Homer received 17 points apiece from Jesse Leman and Layland.

In Thursday’s game, Homer lost to Grace Christian 66-36. Layland had 11 points for Homer, while Blake Arnold had a game-high 21 points for Grace.

The Homer girls fell to Juneau, 56-24, on Friday and again, 53-23, on Saturday.

Homer’s Claire Siekaniec scored 11 points on Friday and seven on Saturday while Reba Temple notched nine on Friday and eight on Saturday.
