Bus drivers deserve fair compensation

Posted: Wednesday, December 17, 2008

The Kenai Peninsula Borough has highly trained professional school bus drivers and attendants. Parents should know that their kids' school bus driver's driving record is blemish free, they have no criminal record. They posses a CDL B and school bus endorsement, current CPR/first aid.

A school bus driver must be an exceptional defensive driver. Safety is always number one while they are at work. Their workplace can be one of the most dangerous work places in Alaska, roadways with ice or snow five months a year.

They must be learned in the mechanics of their bus and posses student management skills, including behavioral psychology to deal with problem students in a moving bus that not even a teacher would know for the safety of the 50 other children on board.

Most important, they care about your kids. For all their highly trained qualifications, bus drivers only ask for a fair compensation in wages and benefits.
