Soldotna boys defeat Grace

The Soldotna boys basketball team opened up play at the Powerade/Al Howard Tip-Off on Thursday by edging Grace Christian 56-52.

Evan Withrow paced the Stars with 16 points, while Zach Jackson had 14 points and Evan Withrow added 12.

Soldotna advances into today's semifinals to face Ketchikan, which defeated Homer 61-55. The game is at 8:15 p.m.

The other semifinal will feature Chugiak, which beat Nikiski, against Mt. Edgecumbe, which defeated Kenai Central. That game is at 6:30 p.m.

The fifth-place bracket today will feature Kenai vs. Nikiski at 3 p.m. and Homer vs. Grace at 4:45 p.m.

On Saturday, the seventh-place game is at 11 a.m., the fifth-place game is at 12:45 p.m., the third-place game is at 2:30 p.m. and the championship is at 4:15 p.m.

Ketchikan 61, Homer 55

The Kings trailed 29-25 at the half, but came back to topple the Mariners and advance into the semifinals.

The difference in the game was the third quarter, when the Kings outscored the Mariners 19-10.

Chas Allen pumped in 23 points to lead the Kings, while Jesse Lindgren had 16 and Alex Williams added 14.

For Homer, Devon Kennelty had 13 points, while Heath Johnson, Quinn Daugherty and Dyllan Day had 11 points apiece.

Chugiak 64, Nikiski 26

Colby Mitchell had 20 points, including 18 in the first half, as the Mustangs won in the first round on Thursday against the Bulldogs.

Lucas Herrin paced the Bulldogs with eight points.

Mt. Edgecumbe 58, Kenai 39

The Braves took an 18-9 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

Bo Reilly had 18 points for Kenai, while AJ Hull added 13.
