Area chambers set schedules

Chambers of commerce speakers for the upcoming week include:

Morgan Evans of Alaska Video Productions at the North Peninsula Chamber of Commerce meeting at noon today at North Kenai Baptist Church. For more information, call Fred Miller at 776-8555.

The Soldotna, Kenai and North Peninsula chambers of commerce will not meet next week due to the Christmas holiday.

CPGH Inc. names new board members

The Central Peninsula General Hospital Inc. recently named two new members to its board of directors:

Alyson Stogsdill will replace outgoing board member Bill Reeder. Stogsdill is a 19-year resident of the Kenai Peninsula and is currently employed as a Legislative Information Officer at the Legislative affairs Agency in Kenai.

Russell R. Peterson, P.E., will replace retiring board member Richard Brown. Peterson is a 16-year resident of the Kenai Peninsula and is currently an adjunct instructor of Process Technology at Kenai Peninsula College.

Both Stogsdill and Peterson will begin their duties at the Jan. 29 CPGH regular board meeting.

Diabetes program receives national certification

The Central Peninsula General Hospital Diabetes Self-Management Education program recently obtained national certification by the American Diabetes Association. The education program provides group and individual instruction for people with diabetes and their families, to enable them to effectively manage their diabetes and enhance their quality of life.

Motorcycle club donates toys

The Peninsula Goldwing Road Riders Association recently purchased toys in support of The Salvation Army's angel tree program. This year's fund raising drive raised enough money to help 40 children.

The club's efforts have more than doubled since it began the project three years ago. The club hopes to be able to help 100 children next year, according to GWRRA member and event coordinator, Bob Walker.

The Home Depot opens today

The Home Depot's new Kenai store opens to the public at 7:00 a.m. today. Vendors will demonstrate their products today through Sunday.

The store offers free weekly do-it-yourself workshops for children and adults. The first kids' workshop is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday and will teach participants how to build a tool box.

Store hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
