Quilt raffle fundraiser begins

The Soldotna High School junior class will sell tickets for a handmade queen-size, Alaska-themed quilt today, Friday and Saturday at the basketball Tip-Off Tournament at the school.

The proceeds will go to fund the junior and senior prom. There will be 1,000 tickets sold. The cost is $5 per ticket or five tickets for $20. The drawing will be held at half-time during a basketball game Jan. 24. The winner does not need to be present. For more information, call Bonnie Strieby at 262-9643.

Community information sought

The Community page is a way to highlight activities and events that happen with a photo. If your group or organization has a photo of an event to share, submit the photo and the following information for print: Who took the photo, who's in it, when and where it was taken, a brief description of what's happening, and a name and phone number in case we have questions.

Youth flu shots offered

Kenai Public Health Center is offering free flu shots for children ages 6 months through 18 years through Vaccines for Children Program. Flu Mist, the intranasal vaccine, also is available for children ages 2 through 18.

Children may be vaccinated from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the center and Thursdays, except this week, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. in Soldotna at the Cottonwood Health Center.

Recipes wanted

The Clarion is seeking recipes to include in its Wednesday Food section. Send recipes to news@peninsulaclarion.com, fax them to 283-3299 or drop them by the office at 150 Trading Bay Drive in Kenai. Name, address, contact number and brief description of how you came up with or came by the recipe is needed.

Swim lessons available

The Kenai Central High School pool will hold American Red Cross level one and two swimming lessons from 5 to 5:40 p.m. and from 5:40 to 6:20 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 6 through Feb. 5. The cost is $50. Preregistration is required.

Toddler basketball slated

The Boys and Girls Club has five spots left for the Start Smart Basketball program for 3- to 5-year-old boys and girls. Program will be held at 9 a.m. Saturdays, Jan. 3 through Feb. 7. Parent participation is required. For more information, call 283-3318.

Aspergers support group to meet

A.S.P.I.E.'S of Alaska support group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 5 at Kenai Public Health Department.

The featured speaker will be Sadie Updike. The topic will be on programs offered through Child Care Connections. The group is open to the public. Call Kellie Schneider at 335-0109 for more information.
