Soldotna Elks table tennis results

Chad Botirius and Wayne Brooks won the Soldotna Elks Lodge’s doubles table tennis tournament Wednesday. Ray Debardeladen and Rusty Miller placed second, and Joe Szczesny and Matt Faris placed third.

The Soldotna Elks hold table tennis tournaments every Wednesday night beginning at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call Bob Sizemore at 262-7415.

4-H club set to mush

A youth mushing club is being established. For more information, call Nancy Veal at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Services office at 262-5824.

LeeShore community classes set

The LeeShore Center offers free community classes from 1 to 3 p.m. in its community meeting room at 325 S. Spruce St. in Kenai. Classes are Domestic Violence Support Group on Tuesdays; Parenting for Women on Thursdays; and Changing Patterns on Fridays. For more information, call 283-9479.

Games, crafts items sought

The Boys and Girls Club at Redoubt Elementary is seeking donations of board games and craft items. Items may be delivered to Kim Lee from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday or by calling 398-9669 to make drop-off arrangements. Donations are tax deductible.

Master gardeners take root

A master gardner class has been scheduled for January and February for the Kenai-Soldotna area. Class topics will cover skills and techniques to successfully garden in Alaska. For more information, call the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Services office at 262-5824.

Women’s Opportunity award:

The Soroptimist International of Kenai Peninsula are seeking applicants for its Women’s Opportunity Award. The winner of this award will receive $500 and will advance to the Soroptimist Northwest Region contest. To be eligible for this award, a woman must be head-of-the household and enrolled in some type of education.

The deadline for submitting applications is Thursday. Applications are available by calling Donna Miller at 262-9273.

Holiday lighting winners announced

The following individuals and businesses were winners in the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce holiday lighting competition: Residential — Jay C. and Karen Smith at 48939 Jones Stub Road, Soldotna off of Gaswell Road, first place; Jeff and Tammy Carrico at 253 Rockwell, second place; and Scott and Lisa Blischke at 368 W. Berring, third place. Commercial — Tammy’s Flowers and Gifts, Tammy and Jay Pokrandt owners, first place; Redoubt Professional Center, Dan and ReAnne Pitts owners, second place; and Soldotna Professional Pharmacy, Tom Hodel owner, third place.
