DAV to meet

The Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 5 will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in the American Legion Bingo Hall at 905 Cook St., Kenai. It is open to all veterans. For more information, call Yvonne at 283-5800 or Glenn at 283-4359.

Free gift wrapping offered

The Triumvirate Bookstore, in the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna, will wrap Christmas gifts for free from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Volunteers will wrap purchases from any store while shoppers have coffee and eat Christmas cookies.

Local authors also will be on hand to sign their books.

T-200 poster contest continues

The Tustumena 200 Sled Dog Race Association is accepting art work from students in grades first through sixth for it annual poster contest. The winning posters will be used for its race advertisement, the race program cover and awards for the mushers.

Contest rules are: Entries should be in color; use crayon, markers or colored pencils; the picture should show friendly competition, humane care of sled dogs, or musher/dog team involvement in the Tustumena 200 Race (known as T-200); must be an original picture; no computers, copies or tracing; one entry per student.

On a plain piece of 8.5 by 11 white paper with the following information is required: name, address, city, state, zip, phone number, teacher's name, school and grade.

KMS volleyball camp set

Kenai Middle School will have a volleyball camp from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 3 and 4 at the school.

Youth in grades six through eight from Soldotna Middle, Cook Inlet Academy, Aurora Borealis Charter, Nikiski Junior High, Connections and Kenai Middle schools may participate.

Jason Diorec, 2008 Arctic Winter Games volleyball coach and Toni Steward, Kenai Central High School volleyball coach, will be the camp directors.

Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch, snacks, extra socks, water, appropriate clothing, non-marking gym shoes, knee pads (optional).

The cost is $80 per person and includes a T-shirt and water bottle. Payment due with application.

The LeeShore Center's community directory of central Kenai Peninsula resources is available for $25 with a three-ring binder or $15 for refill pages only. The directory lists more than 80 pages of information on emergency services, family support agencies, health facilities, senior citizens services and veteran's organizations.
