School benefits from program

Nikiski North Star Elementary students and staff would like to extend thanks and appreciation to Artist in Residence Terry Inokuma.

This residency, which focuses on clay work, is being provided through the Artists in the Schools Program, which is made possible through a partnership between the Alaska State Council on the Arts, which receives support from the Alaska Legislature, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and additional support from the Rasmuson Foundation.

Terry has worked the past three weeks with students from kindergarten through the sixth grade. Her focus has been on the processes of clay art, rather than what the final product will be. Students and staff are fascinated when they see the creations they've made by using the processes learned from Terry.

Student work was displayed at the Movie/Art Night on Dec. 12, and at the end of her residency she will leave us with a whole school piece which relates to our own Alaska history.

Again, we thank all who donated their time, interest and financial assistance in continuing education through the arts.
