CIA basketball tournament a success, thanks to community

Posted: Monday, December 20, 2004

The 14th annual Cook Inlet Academy Basketball Classic wrapped up over the weekend. The tournament, which featured many outstanding basketball games, was a great success. Credit for this success goes to Carmen Franchino, tournament director, and Ron Gherman, CIA athletic director. The CIA family wants to say "thanks" for a job well done.

Many other people participated to make this tournament a success. Thanks also go out to Kim Bell, Mary White, Frankie White, Jeannie McNutt, Bruce Gabriel, Rob Smithwick, Anthony Agosti, Cindy Rehm and the CIA band, Doug and Spenser McAulliffe, Melody Symington, Lindsay Bauder, Jenny Smithwick, Ginny Litchfield, Judy Kjeldson, Wendy McConnell, Pam Wood, Wendi Dutcher, Sherri Warren, Grace Ann Hillyer, Carla Fowler, Nikki Munn, Rita Lindow, Elaine Agosti, Cheryl Beeson, Lisa Burkhart, Dawn Brown, Danielle Gabriel, Rhonda Orth, Dan Michel, Laurel Kytonen, Greg Bell, Robbyn Michel, Greg Bell, Jana Query, Jenna Zufelt, Paul Minelga, Pixie Smith, Jeremiah Niederhauser and Jake Zufelt.

Additional thanks to all those who helped with the CIA China 2005 mission trip concession stand; to the Ninilchik, Galena and Bristol Bay teams and fans for traveling to Soldotna and making the event possible; and to the CIA Student Council for their Spirit Activities.

We would also be remiss if we did not acknowledge two people who founded this tournament 14 year ago. We want to say "thanks" to Tim Keener and Terri Nettles for your leadership and vision — your effort has made the CIA Classic the great event that it is today.

Kevin Spence, principal, Cook Inlet Academy
