CIA boys, Seward girls win Cook Inlet Classic

The Cook Inlet Academy boys and Seward girls finished undefeated at the Cook Inlet Classic on Saturday to win the tournament.

In Saturday girls action, Seward defeated Ninilchik 45-23. Meg Berry and Alex Espelin each had 10 points for the Seahawks, while Lindsey Rohr dumped in 11 points for the Wolverines.

Also on Saturday, Cook Inlet Academy notched a 44-20 victory over Soldotna's junior varsity squad. Amie Smithwick led the way for the Eagles with 13 points.

In Friday girls action, Seward edged CIA 39-34. Meg Berry led the Seahawks with 17 points, while Amie Smithwick had a game-high 20 for the Eagles.

Also, Ninilchik defeated Soldotna's junior varsity 37-26. The Wolverines put three players in double figures, as Brittani Motoyama had 13, Lindsey Rohr had 11 and Cassie Fefelov had 10.

In Friday boys action, Soldotna' junior varsity topped Ninilchik 47-42.

The Ninilchik boys steamrolled Seward's junior varsity squad 61-30 on Saturday. The Wolverines were lead by Jeff Klapak with 18 points, Justin Saganisto with 16 and Sam Bennett with 14. Six of Saganisto's points came from 3-pointers.

The Wolverines out-scored the Stars in each of the four quarters.

Jesse Wolf led the Seahawks with 10 points. Like Saganisto, Wolf hit two 3-point shots in the game. Jeff Buchanan was second in scoring with eight points.

Matthew Moffis had 12 first-quarter points to lead Cook Inlet Academy's boys basketball team over Soldotna's junior varsity team 59-39 on Saturday at the Cook Inlet Classic. Moffis had a team-high 22 points in the game.

The Eagles put up double digits in scoring in each quarter. CIA led 31-25 at halftime.

But they out-scored SoHi 28-14 in the second half.

Garrett Bosick led the Stars with 12 points and Cory Carver followed with 11.

Cordova hosts Homer

Cordova swept Homer on Friday, with the girls winning 55-39 and the boys taking a 77-34 decision.

In the boys game, Cordova got off to a quick start. Dane Meyer had 21 points for Cordova, while Christian Brockert had 18 points. Keith Nolan added 10 points.

In the girls game, Cordova took a double-digit lead at halftime, but Homer cut the lead to eight in the third quarter. Teal Webber hit two of her three 3-pointers to help the Wolverines pull away.

Webber had 20 points, while Angelina Kelly pitched in with 11.

Holland America Holiday Shootout in Sitka

The Yakutat girls basketball team defeated Skyview 51-36 in Friday action of the Holland America Holiday Shootout in Sitka.

The Eagles blanked the Panthers in the opening quarter, leading 14-0 after eight minutes of play. The Panthers bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring Yakutat 15-8.

But the Eagles fought back and outscored Skyview 29-21 in the second half.

Jaxson Hill led Skyview with 13 points.

The Eagles made 13 of 21 free throws in the game. The Panthers went 4-15 from the line.

The Skyview boys basketball team lost to Centralia 59-43 on Saturday in Holland America Holiday Shootout action in Sitka. The Panthers were defeated by Ketchikan 73-35 on Friday.

The Kings put up 24 first-quarter points, more than doubling Skyview's 11. Ketichkan led 42-20 at the half.

The Kings outscored Skyview 31-15 in the second half.

Cameron Harvey led the Panthers with 15 points.
