Kincaid Park in Anchorage hosted the first Besh Cup races of the season on Saturday in Anchorage. The races were a series of freestyle sprint races.
In the Junior 1 and older women's races, Kenai Central's Kailey Mucha finished sixth to lead the peninsula. Others in the top 25 were Megan Spurkland, a master's racer from Homer at 18th, and Bree Mucha, a Soldotna sophomore at 22nd.
In the Junior 1 and older men's races, Homer ski coach Jan Spurkland led the way by finishing 19th.
In the Junior 2 girls races, Soldotna's Maranda Merkes finished 10th and Homer's Shannon Wyatt finished 13th.
In the Junior 2 boys races, Soldotna's Lucas Michael finished 12th.
The second Besh Cup race of the season will be today in Eagle River at the Beach Lake Trails starting at 11 a.m. These races will use the classic style.
