DOT official named director of construction in central region

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Gov. Tony Knowles has named a longtime employee of the state Department of Transportation to a top construction job.

Gordon Keith, 55, has been named director of construction and operations for the central region of Alaska. He replaces Dave Eberle who was recently promoted to director of the central region.

Keith is an engineer who has served as chief of highway and aviation construction for the department for the past seven years. He was first hired by DOT in 1965. He graduated from the University of Alaska in 1974.

Keith has supervised construction of numerous major state projects, including construction of the Whittier tunnel, the Seward Highway Canyon Creek Bridge Project and widening of the Glenn Highway between Eklutna and the Parks Highway.

Keith will earn about $93,000 annually in his new job.
