For the last five years members of the local Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) have combined their love for motorcycle riding and safety with an equal measure of holiday spirit and cash. You may recall the precision slow riding demonstration the club performed this summer at the Soldotna Progress Days parade. The GWRRA also sponsored a national rally here in July. According to Preston Williams a GWRRA member these events and personal donations from club members generate funds during the year that are used to shop for Angel Tree wishes at Christmas time, "We like to do fun things, are motto is fun and safety, and we know that there are children in the area that won't have a good Christmas without some help, so we go to the Salvation Army and select wishes from their Angel Tree program and then we go shopping," said Williams.

This year Williams says they were able to fill wishes for 47 local children with the nearly $1,200 dollars the club raised, "Some of the kids wanted real practical things, like one girl's wish was for a comforter and another just wanted a wallet and of course others wanted toys, so we shopped 'til the money was gone," added Williams.

Each year Fred Meyers gives the club some special help to make their Angel Tree shopping dollars go as far as possible and Williams said that this year a Harley Davidson rider even came by when they were shopping and helped them have a Happy Honda-day as well, "The Harley rider was Dave Hutchings, and he came by and gave us an additional contribution and that was a real good thing because we found we had over shopped our budget just a hair when we got to the cash register, so Dave's help kept us from having to dig into our own wallets again," laughed Williams.
