Merry Christmas.

As I continue with a holiday break from my column until Jan. 11, I want to remind community members who have information to put in the column that they may e-mail it to Nan Misner at the Clarion at nancianna.misner, fax it to her at 283-3299 or drop it off at the Clarion at 150 Trading Bay Road in Kenai.

The deadline to get your information in by is 5 p.m. Thursday. Call Nan if you have any questions. In the meantime, I'll be relaxing — I hope.

Ian Parks is home for the holidays visiting his parents Pat and Marita Parks. Parks is attending motorcycle mechanics school in Phoenix and is 2004 graduate of Soldotna High School. Welcome back, Ian.

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce Christmas lighting contest winners were picked. If you're out and about, you may wish to drive by these "electric" residences: Jay Smith at 48939 Jones Stub Road, Scott and Lisa Blischke at 368 W. Bering and Deward Halsey at 37452 Denise Lake Road, who placed first, second and third, respectively.

The chamber gave honorable mentions to Paul and Cookie Yoon at Jawls and Grove Street, Gary and Sharon Hale at 140 Henrich, Richard Quick at 36515 Deville Road and Jeff and Tami Carrico at 253 W. Rockwell.

Thanks for putting yourselves — and us — into the holiday spirit.

Remember, with the holidays on Saturdays, most offices will be closed on the prior Friday. Just thought it might be worth noting.

Soldotna Public Library will sponsor a used book sale from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 29 at 235 Binkley St. in Soldotna. Books cost 25 cents unless they are otherwise marked. If you need more information, call 262-4227.

Have you thought about becoming a nurse? Nursing education scholarship applications are available at the financial aid office at the Kenai Peninsula College or at Heritage Place at 232 Rockwell Ave. in Soldotna. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 31. Preference will be given to students who pursue a nursing degree in Alaska. The scholarships will be awarded in early January.

Birthday wishes this week go out to Tim Mahan and John Lucking.

This week the quote from Spenard Builders Supply is: "Unless we see the cross overshadow the cradle, we will have lost the real meaning of Christ's birth."

The chamber staff wishes everyone a happy holiday and reminds residents there is no chamber luncheon today.

Wishing you and your loved ones a safe and joyous holiday season.
