Free movie tickets offered

The First Baptist Church of Kenai is providing free movie passes to see "The Nativity Story," directed by Catherine Hardwicke at 7 p.m. Saturday at the church at 12815 Kenai Spur Highway.

Pizza and activities also are planned. It is open the public. Reservations are not required. For more information, call 283-7672.

Potluck, musical set for Saturday

A potluck and community Christmas musical, "Have You Heard the News," will be held at 5:45 p.m. Saturday at the fairgrounds in Ninilchik.

Christmas services planned

The following churches will host special Christmas services and are open to the public:

* The Apostolic Assembly of Jesus Christ will hold a worship service at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the church at Murray Lane, Mile 89 of the Sterling Highway. The service will feature special music, including the Christmas cantata "The Way He Came."

* Grace Lutheran Church will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service, featuring the children of the congregation and school at 7 p.m. Monday at the church, one block off Kalifornsky Beach Road, on Ciechanski Road. There will be candles on the road lighting the way to the worship service. The theme will be "Jesus, What a Gift!" A Christmas sack full of goodies will be given to the children in the congregation after the service. A cookie reception will follow the service. The church will host a Christmas Day service at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The topic will be "How Has the Word Made Flesh, Christ, Made us Spiritual Billionaires?" * The United Methodist Church of the New Covenant in Kenai will hold a candlelight Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. Monday at the church on the Kenai Spur Highway next to the Boys and Girls Club. The service will include congregational carol singing, a chime ensemble, scripture and poetry. Pastor Lucy Barton will share a brief Christmas message. At the close of the service, the congregation will be in darkness except for the light of the Christ candle. From that candle, the Christmas light will go forth throughout the congregation and into the world.

Free clothing available

The First Baptist Church in Soldotna has a clothes closet, where free clothing is available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays in the garage at 119 Little St. Participants are asked to use the back door. For more information, call 260-4806.

Grief support group to meet

Soldotna United Methodist Church holds a life, love, loss support group from noon to 1 p.m. on the first and third Monday of the month at the church at 158 S. Binkley St. Any type of loss is open for discussion in the group. Attendees are asked to bring a brown bag lunch.

Children's program planned

The Soldotna United Methodist Church will have an after-school program from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Children may arrive as early as 3:30 p.m. Children in grades kindergarten through fourth may attend. Youth in grades five and up will be used to help.

Children's Bible club offered

Sterling Baptist Church will begin a weekly children's Bible club from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays at the church on the Sterling Highway and the corner of Swanson River Road. Some of the planned activities include games, prizes, Bible stories and songs. Youth in grades kindergarten through sixth may attend.

Nikiski Aglow meeting set

Nikiski Aglow meets at 10 a.m. Wednesdays at North Star United Methodist Church at Mile 25.5 of the Kenai Spur Highway. Women are invited to attend Bible study, prayer and worship. For more information, call Bev Berdahl at 776-8022.

Bible study slated

Kenai First Baptist Church holds the Bible study, "A Woman's Heart: God's Dwelling Place," at 10 a.m. Thursdays in the church fellowship hall. Child care will be available.

Clothes Quarters open

The Clothes Quarters is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays at 225 S. Spruce St. behind Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Kenai. The store sells clothes and free trade coffee. For more information, call Margaret at 283-9371 or Joan at 283-4555.

Marriage workshop planned

The Rev. Norvell Robertson will lead a marriage communications workshop from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 11 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Soldotna United Methodist Church at 158 S Binkley St. in Soldotna.
