Quilts of love

Posted: Sunday, December 21, 2008

Pictured above are some of the members of the Funny River Quilters, with a quilt the group will donate to Hospice of the Central Peninsula, as a fundraiser for Hospice. The group gathers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays at the Funny River Community Center at Mile 12.5 Funny River Road (turn right at the end of the golf course, go one block and center is on the right.) The group donated 159 quilts in 2007 and have made and donated 120 this year. Quilts have been given to the oncology department, the pediatric unit and the nursery at Central Peninsula Hospital; to Alzheimers patients; victims of house fires; Forget-Me-Not adult day care center; Heritage Place; and mothers in need at the Crisis Pregnancy Center. The group accepts donations of cash, thread or material for quilts. They also seek information on families or organizations that might benefit from a quilt. Sewers, of any skill level are invited to join the group and help out the community. For more information or to make a donation, call Marilyn Corder at 260-5874.
