Seward takes 3rd at Cougar Tip-Off

Robert Perea scored 18 points, Peter Fleming added 13 and Dylan Beck netted 11 in sending the Seward boys to a 52-37 win over Colony and a third-place finish in the 29th Annual Alaska/Cougar Tip-Off tournament on Saturday at Service High School in Anchorage.

Perea, named to the all-tournament team, drained three of Seward's four 3-pointers and was 3-of-4 from the foul line in helping the Seahawks avenge a semifinal setback to East, which lost in the championship game to defending Class 4A state runner-up Bartlett, 67-45.

Trailing 19-15 after the first, the Seahawks knotted the game at 25 at halftime before limiting the Knights to just two points in the third quarter in taking command.

Seward then capped the game with a 16-10 fourth quarter in taking third place.

The Eagles overcame halftime and third-period deficits by outscoring the Seahawks 17-10 in the fourth in closing their own tournament with a win on Saturday.

Amie Smithwick scored nine of her game-high 19 points in the final frame in helping CIA claw its way back.

Sophomore Emily Draper paced Seward with 15 points.

Seldovia 48, Soldotna JV 16

Sara O'Leary scored a game-high 17 points and Katie O'Leary added 14 in powering the Sea Otters past the Stars' JV team on Saturday.

Jumping out to an 11-2 edge after the first, Seldovia stretched the lead to 21-4 at halftime and 40-10 after three.

The Sea Otters also got nine points from Courtney Collier.
