Longtime Alaskan and Soldotna area resident Dorothy Roberta "Robbie" Harris died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at her home. She was 75.
Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at Peninsula Memorial Chapel, 5839 Kenai Spur Hwy., Kenai. A Celebration of life will be held on Mrs. Harris' birthday, July 12, 2011, on the family homestead, 36142 Pine St., in Soldotna. Mrs. Harris was born July 12, 1935, in Las Vegas, Nev. She graduated high school in Napa, Calif., and attended medical school in San Francisco from 1959-60.
She moved to Alaska in 1974. She worked for the Kenai Peninsula Borough and later retired.
Mrs. Harris enjoyed painting, sewing, reading and gardening.
"She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends," her family said. "She was the rock of the family and will be missed in the garden this summer."
Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband James Wesley Harris and a son, Croy Edward Harris.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James "Mike" and Cindy Harris, of Soldotna; daughter, Kathy Harris, of California; granddaughter, Laurel M. Harris, of Washington; grandson, Ryan J. Harris, of Anchorage; and a brother and sister-in-law, David and Pat Strickland, of California.
Memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.
