Alumni basketball game slated
The Kenai Central High School basketball booster club will host a boys and girls alumni basketball tournament at 1 p.m. Saturday in the KCHS gym. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per player. For more information, call 262-8999.
Parenting course offered
Kenai Peninsula Community Care Center will offer a cooperative parenting and divorce course from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, beginning Jan. 4 and ending March 8 at the Kenai Public Health Center. It will be a video-based, interactive group course designed to help improve communication between single co-parents, divorced parents, step-parents and grandparents. Monopoly tournaments to be held
The Peninsula Winter Games will host its annual adult and youth monopoly tournaments in January at the Aspen Hotel in Soldotna. Prizes will be awarded. Space is limited.
The adult tournament begins at 6 p.m. Jan. 20. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m.

Lighting contest winners announced
The following businesses and individuals were named winners in the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce’s annual holiday lighting contest:
· Residential winners: Jay C. and Karen Smith at 48939 Jones Stub Road, Frank and Beverly Couch at 149 Farnsworth and Gary and Sharon Hale at 140 Henrich Circle, placed first, second and third, respectively. Honorable mentions went to Laurie Speakman at 138 Farnsworth and Jeff and Tammy Carrico at 253 W. Rockwell.
· Business winners: Professional Home IV at 182 S. Birch and Dr. Robert Thompson at 188 W. Marydale, placed first and second, respectively. Honorable mentions went to Froso’s Restaurant at 35433 of the Kenai Spur Highway, Central Peninsula Hospital at 250 Hospital Place, Soldotna Professional Pharmacy at 299 N. Binkley and Geneva Woods Health Care at 104 S. Binkley.
Reading carnival seeks vendors
The fourth annual Peninsula Reading Carnival will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 17 in the Soldotna Middle School gym. Applications for booths at the event will be accepted until Jan. 15. Booths cost $25 for businesses or $10 for non-profit organizations. Proceeds will benefit literacy projects.
