Longtime Soldotna resident Mrs. Joan J. Wood died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, while visiting relatives in Ogden, Utah. She was 75.
Private family services were held Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Myers Mortuary in Ogden.
Mrs. Wood was born Sept. 4, 1934, to Nora and Hammer Peterson. Mrs. Wood and her husband, John, moved from Las Vegas to Soldotna in 1961.
She worked at Homer Electric Association from June 1973 to September 1996. Mrs. Wood enjoyed togetherness with her family and friends, gardening, book club, crossword puzzles and helping those in need.
"'Grandma Joan', as most knew her, will be remembered by her smiling face, wonderful cooking, beautiful yard, big hugs and constant 'I love you's,'" her family said. "She was always there to cheer her kids and grandkids on at any sporting, school or work event no matter what the weather or time involved. She loved to share her flowers and was always there if we needed her."
Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Todd; sisters, Mick, Helen, Irene, Toby and Muriel; and grandson, Ryan Wood.
She is survived by her husband, John L. Wood; daughter, Lynda Lengle of Soldotna; sons, Rick Wood, and his wife, Laurie, of Soldotna and Scott Wood, and his wife, Pam, of Kenai; grandchildren, Ashley, Kyle, Lindsey and Logan Wood, of Soldotna, Sean Nuccio and Sara Wood, of Colorado, Korey Mohanan-Cann, of Arizona; sister, Joyce Jorgensen, and her husband, Royce, of Utah; brother, Joe Pete Peterson, of Nevada; and sister-in-law, Betty Peterson, of Soldotna.
