With kids home from college for the holidays and local schools on winter break, there is the likelihood that parents may here that familiar complaint, "There's nothing to do around here!" is now mute thanks to the opening of a new establishment called "Icons 907." The business is the inspiration of Art and Kristina Goolsby, owners of Midway Auto located on the Spur Highway. The new business, Icons 907, is located next to Malston's across from the Kenai Visitors & Cultural Center in Kenai and is dedicated to, and for, Alaskans. The walls of the newly remodeled nearly 5,000 sq. ft. facility are lined with many photos and bios of Alaskan Icons like Jay Hammond and Ted Stevens that are linked to the state's area code for all of Alaska, hence the "907" portion of the business' name. "We saw the need in our community and jumped in to make it happen, but not just for kids, Icons 907 is a smoke-free, non-alcoholic fun place for all ages. The icons are pictures of local people and events that have made this such a great community to live in," said Art.
Icons 907 includes four new pool tables, a WiFi internet caf with computer stations, the latest Ps3, & X-box computer games on large plasma screens, a complete espresso bar, pizza parlor and board game room for the traditional Monopoly, Backgammon, Chess, or Cribbage games, plus a dance floor and room where live bands and DJ's will be featured on special nights.
According to Kristina, the new Icons 907 will also be available for private rental for weddings or birthday parties. "One night a week we plan to have a youth night during the winter months when there is less to do, but the other evenings will be for adults who also would like to dance. The main idea is to have the club available for private rental for any special event, birthday party, youth group, celebration or party of any kind because there is no other place that features all the variety of things to do as our Icons 907 facility," said Kristina.
Icons 907 memberships will be available which will offer discounts and special prices for facility and game rentals. Icons 907 will be open from 1:00pm - 11:00pm week days with later weekend evening hours.
