Longtime Alaskan and Kenai resident Loraine Lucille O'Connell, 88, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at her home in Kenai.
No services are planned at this time.
Mrs. O'Connell was born Aug. 1, 1922, in Nobles County, Minn. She attended high school and graduated from Mankato State Teacher's College. She and her husband moved to Alaska in 1978 and she worked for Stolz Electric in Anchorage. In 1980, she began working for the Municipality of Anchorage, retiring in 1985.
Mrs. O'Connell was an avid reader, crocheting and fishing. She also traveled extensively, including to Taiwan, Japan, Germany, France, Austria and England.
"Loraine will hold a special place in all of our hearts as a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mom instilled in all of her children a strong work ethic, great sense of humor and love of adventure. She will be missed greatly but will live on in all of us." her family said.
Mrs. O'Connell was preceded in death by her brothers, Claire and Donald; and a sister, Harriet.
She is survived by her husband, Harold, of Kenai; son, Michael, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Sandra Kay, of Blaine, Minn.; granddaughters, Jessica, of Minnesota and Samantha, of Arizona; and a great-granddaughter, Alexandra, of Blaine, Minn.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
