Women's cancer support group meets

All women are welcome to attend a cancer support group meeting on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Soldotna Bible Chapel (on the corner of Kobuk and Marydale in Soldotna). Call Renee at 953-9343 for more information.

New information for cancer patients

The American Cancer Society and its advocacy affiliate, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) has produced a new consumer guide for cancer patients and their families looking for information on how the new Affordable Care Act will help them better access health care. The guide describes how provisions of the law improve the quality of care and make health care more affordable, available and easier for patients to understand. The guide also clarifies some of the myths about the new law. The guide is posted on both the American Cancer Society's and ACS CAN's Web sites. Refuge open for Christmas tree cutting

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge is open for Christmas tree cutting. Trees are free for personal use with a limit of one per household. Trees may be taken anywhere on the refuge with hand tools, except within 150 feet of a road, lake, stream, trail, campground or picnic area. No tree cutting is permitted in the Refuge Headquarters/Visitor Center area and along Ski Hill Road. The public is requested to trim the stumps as close to the ground as possible for aesthetic reasons. Ian's Film Forum: "A Christmas Carol" showing

Come enjoy a timeless Christmas film, paired with good conversation and good company. We will be watching the 1951 edition of the holiday classic, "A Christmas Carol," Sunday at 2 p.m. at Peninsula Grace Youth Center, Mile 19.5 K-Beach Road.

Public health center closures

The Kenai Public Health Center will be closed Friday, Dec. 24, and Friday, Dec. 31, in observance of Christmas and New Year's Day. The center will reopen on the Mondays following each holiday at 8 a.m. Call 335-3400 for more information.

Alumni hockey on tap

The 15th annual Kenai Central High School and Soldotna High School Alumni Hockey Game takes place at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Soldotna Sports Center. Santa will be there for the kids. Wet and dry sections. Admission, $10 for adults, $5 for children, students and seniors.

New car club forming

The first organizational meeting of the KAKNU KRUZERS car club will be held Saturday, Jan. 15 at noon, at Metal Magic Art Studio, 14429 Kenai Spur Highway, two miles north of Kenai. For more information call Scott at 776-7676.
