ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A 19-year-old man who was shot in the head by a friend has died of his injuries.

Cameron Dorsey was shot early Tuesday morning as he rode in a car.

Solomon Garcia, 21, has been charged with first-degree assault for the shooting. Anchorage police have said the charges would be upgraded to manslaughter if Dorsey died.

Garcia was being held on $50,000 bail at Cook Inlet Pre-Trial Facility.

Police also were looking for George Wilkins, 20, who was driving his father's vehicle Tuesday and whose gun was involved in the shooting. He faces a felony evidence-tampering charge. Police have a warrant for his arrest.

Police said Garcia told them he and Dorsey were passengers in the car. According to the criminal complaint, Garcia was sitting in the back seat and assumed the gun was unloaded when he pulled the trigger several times, hitting front-seat passenger Dorsey in the head.

Garcia has a criminal record and was in jail in November.
