BIG LAKE (AP) -- The Klondike 300 Sled Dog Race has been canceled due to poor trail conditions.
The mid-distance race begins and ends in Big Lake and is usually held in mid-January. It is a qualifier for the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
Klondike Race Secretary Bob Spears told KNOM radio that the warm winter has prevented organizers from putting in a trail.
The Klondike 300 was also canceled in 2001 due to warm weather.
