It was pizza and pop complements of the Soldotna Rotary for SoHi students selected as Students of the Month. According to Michael Druce, SoHi teacher and activities director who coordinates the pizza luncheon each month, some 30 students were selected this month.
"What the teachers look for in selecting students for this recognition is contributions they have made to the school or improvements they've made in the class or attitude, it's really a way to give students a positive pat on the back. The students appreciate that the teachers take notice of what they are doing and it's something they look forward to," said Druce. "I was recognized for improving my grade in Principals of Technology, it really is cool when people of the community take their time to come visit and bring us pizza," said Scott. Clyde Fowley, a SoHi student who served the pizza, agreed that it was absolutely a good thing.
Soldotna Rotary Club President, Dr. Dan Pitts said that the program has been an ongoing service of the Club and that it gives Rotarians an opportunity to interact with the students and also let them know about the scholarship opportunities that they offer annually. Both the Kenai and Soldotna Rotary Clubs also sponsor foreign exchange students.
