Alumni basketball games planned

Kenai Central High School annual alumni basketball games will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the school. The cost is $10 for a family, $5 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens and free for children under 5.

Area alumni interested in participating on their school teams can call the following organizers: Soldotna High, John and Paula Christiansen at 262-1325; Skyview High, Kim Navarre at 283-9385; Nikiski High, Kimi Lofstedt at 283-7308; Cook Inlet Academy, Terry Nettles at 262-9115; Kenai Central High School boys, Katie Pault at 283-8008; KCHS girls, M.K. Challenger Center plans holiday activities

The Challenger Learning Center of Alaska will hold four activities at the center over the holiday season:

Astronomy Night for the Family will be from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Sunday at the center. The event is planned to help celebrate the winter solstice and will combine mythology and astronomy.

Houston We Have a Problem, for students in the fourth through sixth grades, will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 29 and from 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 2. The cost is $20 per student. There is a minimum of 12 students per session.

Mission Impossible is for fifth- through eighth-grade students and will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 3. Students will fly two missions. It helps to build teamwork and communication skills. The cost is $65 per student, with a minimum of 14 students to fly per mission. For more information or to register, call the center at 283-2000.

Swim club seeks members

A new swim club, South Central Aquatics, will hold registration for members at 3 p.m. Jan. 5 in front of the Skyview High School pool entrance. Advance registration is recommended. For more information, call Dennis Reger at 262-1220 or Petra Clinton at 262-5563.

Environmental directory seeks entries

The Alaska Youth for Environmental Action, a program of the National Wildlife Federation, is compiling a statewide directory of youth environmental programs for high school and university students in Alaska. The directory will include contact information for organizations associated with high school, university or community youth groups. It will be available in the spring. Auction fund-raiser for hospice slated

The Hospice of the Central Peninsula will hold an "Evening with Hospice" from 6 to 10 Feb. 7 at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. Wine tasting, gourmet appetizers and silent and outcry auctions are some of the planned activities.

The evening will be an opportunity for community members to learn about hospice and its services. The cost is $40 per person. All proceeds will go to hospice. For more information, call Sue at 262-0453.
