Many helped make club's 2004 basketball season a slam dunk

The Boys and Girls Club 2004 fifth- and sixth-grade basketball league just completed another great season! Thanks to the help and support of our wonderful community, more than 200 fifth- and sixth-graders from all over the area were given the opportunity to be a part of a team, learn and improve their basketball skills, make friends and most importantly, participate and have fun! The Boys and Girls Club strives to offer quality youth programs encouraging our young people to grow and develop into productive, responsible and caring citizens. Our sports programs are a wonderful way to teach valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline, responsibility and respect.

A big thank you to all who pitched in to help out where and when needed. "Many hands, do indeed, make light work." And many, many thanks to all the fifth- and sixth-grade basketball coaches who volunteered countless hours to work with our kids, to be excellent role models and to be caring adults in our kids' lives.

They are: Ryann Hansen, Rick Dukowitz, Joy Skjold, Laurie Lingafelt, Doug Munn, Kevin Stalker, Dabre Newcomb, Gary Tooms, Tristan Leiter, Adam Cooper, John Wensley, Eric Skjold, Glen Godfrey, Mark Schams, Mike Tovoli, Phil Sheridan, Shelley Stockdale, Stephanie McNutt, Ronnie Rainey, Kelly Reilly, Randy Harvey, Nick Hallford, Rob Sparks, Ted VanAntwerp, Lisa Duke, Charlie Stephens, Paul Ostrander, Ken Mayer, Judy Johnson, Gary Cooper, Nikki Jeffrey, Rob Johnson, Becky Samson, Tim Taylor and Kim Senn.

Also, the Boys and Girls Club greatly appreciates the following community-minded businesses who gave their financial support by sponsoring a team: Kenai Peninsula Orthopaedics, Enstar Natural Gas Company, Arby's, Auto Wash Express, JD Contractors Inc., ConocoPhillips, Greatland Guide Service, Hutchings Chevrolet, Clearwater Air, Kelly Keating-Griebel-Freedom Realty, BP, Redoubt Realty-Marti Pepper, Alaska Industrial Hardware and Soldotna Dental Clinic.

Their support helps ensure our program remains a quality one. We are truly lucky to live in a place where people are willing to get involved and give back to their community!
