Mr. Richards was born Jan. 25, 1954, in Fremont, Mich. He graduated from Mona Shores High School in Muskegon, Mich., and from Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College. In May 1981, David moved to Soldotna. He was a Kenai River fishing guide for 26 years and worked many other jobs in the off season. He was a member of the Soldotna Bible Chapel in Soldotna.
Dave loved the great outdoors of Alaska and was a master fisherman and hunter.
"That passion motivated him to share his expertise with many. Dave humorously entertained his clients, family and friends with detailed story telling. His heart for others to know his Savior led him on a mission trip to Russia where he met the 'catch of his life,' Irina -- true story," his family said.
Mr. Richards was preceded in death by his parents, Lee David and Belle Mae Richards.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Irina Richards, of Soldotna; sisters, Lawanda Richards, of Denver, Carolyn Ipsen and her husband, Dennis, of Denver, and Lynn Richards, of Muskegon, Mich.,; brother, Dwight Richards, and his wife, Sheryl, of Muskegon, Mich.; seven nieces and nephews; and 10 great-nieces and nephews.
The family suggests that memorial donations may be made in memory of David to "SOAR": 135 Granite Point Ct., Kenai, Alaska 99611.
