Sterling resident Thomas D. Coury Jr. died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at his home, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 69.
No services were scheduled locally.
Mr. Coury was born June 11, 1941, to Thomas and Gertrude (Killingbeck) Coury, in Torrington, Conn. Throughout his life and into retirement he was a self-employed musician, with several memorable road trips and stories. Mr. Coury was a Catholic, who enjoyed fishing and playing his guitar.
The family wrote: "The community lost one of the greatest entertainers it has known."
Mr. Coury was preceded in death by his parents; and spouse, Dawn Kempf Coury.
He is survived by his daughter, Carrie Coury-Jarrett, of Umatilla, Fla.; son, Michael Coury, of Lady Lake, Fla.; sister, Ann Fecto, of New Hartford, Fla.; brother, Jim Coury, of Ponce Inlet, Fla.; sister, Christine Santoro, of Torrington, Fla.; grandchildren, Matthew Parrish, of Umatilla, Fla., Amy Parrish, of Tampa, Fla., Jacob Parrish, of Umatilla, Fla., Michael Coury, of Umatilla, Fla., Megan Coury-Moore, of Corinth, MS.; Mark Coury, of Lady Lake, Fla.; and Sarah Jarrett, of Umatilla, Fla.; and great grandchildren, Nathaniel Parrish, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Cassandra Coury, of Umatilla, Fla.; Stephen Moore, of Corinth, Fla.; and Kieryn Parrish, of Tampa, Fla.
His ashes will be scattered by the Kenai River, the Florida Keys and in Connecticut.
