Nikiski grad earns degree

Rebecca Marie Arness, the daughter of Barb and Jim Arness of Nikiski, graduated from Alaska Pacific University on Dec. 15 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She was on the national dean's list and is a member of Kappa Delta Pi. She plans on teaching in Alaska. Arness graduated from Nikiski High School in 1998.

Student receives scholarship

Jessene Wangaard, daughter of Robert Kuiper of Sterling, received the Millstone Family Scholarship from the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis. Wangaard is pursuing a master of social work degree and graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in social work.

The Millstone Family Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding full-time student who has made a commitment to work with undeserved populations. The scholarship is for $10,000 over two years.

Honor society accepts Soldotna student

Monica Ann Brant of Soldotna is one of 715 new members inducted into Oklahoma State University's chapter of Golden Key National Honor Society this month in Stillwater.

Golden Key is one of the nation's most active academic honors organizations. Membership is by invitation only, and no more than 15 percent of all students are eligible to join.
