Central peninsula to celebrate Christmas with services

Several church services are planned in the central Kenai Peninsula on both today and on Christmas Day. The following is a listing of those provided to the Clarion.

Children's Mass this evening

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Soldotna will conduct a children's Mass at 6 this evening as well as a traditional midnight Mass.

The Christmas Day Mass will be at 10 a.m.

Candlelight event planned

Peninsula Christian Center will hold its annual Christmas Eve candlelight service today at 6. This one-hour service will feature special music, scripture reading and a few surprises. All children will receive a special gift bag after the service.

Peninsula Christian Center is behind The Salvation Army store on the Kenai Spur Highway in Soldotna. For more information, call 262-7416.

Cantata service scheduled

The United Methodist Church of the New Covenant in Kenai will conduct its annual candlelight cantata service at 7 tonight.

The cantata, "Rejoice Believers," will be conducted by Cherie Brewer and narrated by Jim Heim. The service closes with "Silent Night," and each person will be given a candle to light and take home.

All are welcome. The church is across the street from the Boys and Girls Club. For more information, call 283-7868.

Christmas Eve service slated

The public is invited to a candlelight Christmas Eve service at 7 tonight at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and School on Ciechanski Road, one block off Kalifornsky Beach Road.

Children will present "The Heavenly Stranger," and the audience may participate in Christmas carols.

A one-hour Christmas song and scripture festival is planned for 11 a.m. Christmas Day.

Sterling candlelight service set

The Sterling Community Christmas Eve candlelight service will be tonight at 7 at the Sterling Senior Citizens Center. The service is being sponsored by the Assembly of God and Lutheran congregations. It is open to the public. Refreshments will be served after the service.

Bible chapel to feature choir

The community is invited to a Christmas Eve service at 7 tonight at the Soldotna Bible Chapel, 300 W. Marydale Drive. The choir, directed by Gary Lindman, will perform "He Started the Whole World Singing."

Guest soloist will be Daniel Johnston of This Hope.

Service to feature children's bell choir

The New Life Kids Bell Choir will be featured during the Kenai New Life Assembly of God Christmas Eve service at 7 this evening.

The public is invited to the service, which also will include candle lighting, Christmas hymns and communion. The service is for the entire family.
