Hospital board contracts health needs survey
The Central Kenai Peninsula Hospital Service Area Board has contracted the independent research firm Public Health Resource Group to conduct a survey of health needs in the central peninsula service area during the week of Jan. 11-17.
Individuals residing in the service area will be called at random and asked to participate in the 15-minute telephone survey. The information gathered is intended to assist area providers in improving health care and medical services.
For more information, contact Ellen Adlam, chair for the Central Kenai Peninsula Hospital Service Area Board, at 262-0669.
Dietitian certified as lactation consultant
Registered Dietitian Tamara Miller has passed the board certification examination offered by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) to become a Registered Lactation Consultant.
IBLCE-certified health-care professionals help mothers get the most out of breast-feeding, which offers many benefits, according to a press release.
A mother who breast-feeds can save $1,400 on formula, is more likely to bond closely with her child, passes on immunities to her child, loses the weight gained from pregnancy more quickly and has a reduced risk of contracting pre-menopausal breast cancer or osteoporosis over her lifetime. Studies also have shown that babies who are breast-fed have fewer visits to health-care providers through age 17.
Miller works at Central Peninsula General Hospital and can be contacted at 714-4753.
