Ardith Marie (Burr) Johnson

Longtime Kenai resident Ardith Marie (Burr) Johnson died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, at home. She was 67.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Peninsula Memorial Chapel, 5839 Kenai Spur Highway, Kenai. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 605 Forest Lane, Kenai. A viewing will be held at noon prior to the service. Graveside services will follow at the Kenai City Cemetery and lunch will immediately follow the graveside services at the church for friends and family. Bishop Brant Ellis will officiate.

Pallbearers will include Richard Johnson, Michael Johnson, Trevor Johnson, Russell Johnson, Ronald Johnson, Bruce Cleverley, Monte Cleverley and Kaleb Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson was born Aug. 28, 1939, to Arthur and Ila Burr in Heber, Utah. She graduated from high school and continued her education by receiving a degree. In 1953 she became a resident of Alaska. She lived in various places including Anchorage, Soldotna, Kenai and Valdez. She was a housewife and belonged to the LDS church and served as the relief society president five times. She was active in politics and participated in Jay Hammond’s campaign. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed crafts, genealogy, people and giving service.

“Our mother is an exceptional lady. She is loved for her positive view on life, her sense of humor and love of people. We were blessed with the best of childhoods. Mom played with us, worked with us and always laughed with us. She has given us warmth, love and watermelon picnics. We have grown to adults with her always on our side. She is our cheerleader, our friend and confidant. She taught us to express gratitude, work hard, play hard and love others, with love, thank you Mom,” her family said.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Ila Burr Vickers and John Vickers; father, Arthur Burr; brother, Delbert Burr; and grandsons, Jon and Jesse Cleverley.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Lawrence Johnson of Kenai; sons and daughters in-law, Richard and Gina Johnson of Lakeland, Fla., Michael and Lauri Johnson of Nikiski, Russell and Paula Johnson of Pleasant Grove, Utah, and Ronald and Patty Johnson of Wasilla; daughter and son in-law, Carolyn and Bruce Cleverley of Boise, Idaho; 23 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
