Icy Roads cause trouble for Southcentral motorists

Posted: Wednesday, December 26, 2001

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Rain and temperatures hovering near freezing on Tuesday and early Wednesday produced icy conditions north and south of Anchorage that sent vehicles sliding into ditches.

Alaska State Troopers on the Kenai Peninsula responded to numerous vehicles in distress but no serious crashes were reported.

A mix of rain and snow fell Tuesday and early Wednesday and motorists were being advised not to travel unless necessary.

North of Fort Richardson, Anchorage police responded to two dozen minor crashes and vehicles in distress along the Glenn Highway and in Eagle River. Some involved overturned vehicles but no one was seriously injured, police said.
