Former Kenai area residents Eugene R. and Florence E. (Davis) Collins celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003.
The couple was married in the Westover Baptist Church in San Marcos, Texas.
Florence was born in Dilley, Texas, then moved to San Marcos when she was 3 months old, where she grew up and graduated from high school. She obtained an associates degree from Kenai Community College and pursued other self-improvement studies.
Eugene was born in Dilley, where he grew up and graduated from high school. He attended Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde, Texas. In 1949, he got a job with Medina Electric Cooperative and stayed with that industry until he retired 36 years later. He was drafted in 1951 and served two years active duty and five years inactive duty in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. His last 10 years of work were with Homer Electric Association in Kenai, where he was district manager until he retired.
During their marriage, the couple has lived in Texas, Georgia, California, Nevada and Alaska. They have been active in their churches, schools and other parts of the communities they have lived in. They have enjoyed each other, their life and family very much, they said.
The Collins have three children: Nancy of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Randy of San Antonio and Jean of Carson City, Nev.; four grandchildren and one great-grandson who is 3.
Their children arranged for the family to spend Thanksgiving week at the Fort Lauderdale Resort in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
