Volunteers provide food for thought

Letters to the Editor

On behalf of the Nikiski North Star Site Council, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the volunteers from the Lighthouse Baptist Church and the United Methodist Church who have donated their time every school morning over the past five years for our breakfast program. These individuals' typically arrive every morning at 7:30 and stay for several hours preparing food, overseeing the meal itself and cleaning up after the children have started school. Because of their efforts, over 135 children receive a nutritional breakfast each day children who otherwise might have difficulty concentrating on their academics because of hunger. As a result, these students are able to concentrate on the curriculum being taught, behave better and have higher test scores.

We commend these individuals who took time out of their lives to make this community and school stronger. It is with heartfelt thanks that we extend our deepest appreciation to you for the generosity of your time over the last five years.
