Osgood withstands Hurricanes

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Chris Osgood made 25 saves as the New York Islanders earned their first shutout of the season with a 3-0 victory Saturday night over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Osgood helped the Islanders kill off 10 penalties in recording his 35th career shutout. Mark Parrish, Alexei Yashin and Michael Peca scored for New York, which has won two straight.

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Marian Gaborik had a goal and two assists to lift Minnesota over Buffalo.

Gaborik assisted on goals by Filip Kuba and Jim Dowd. Antti Laaksonen added an empty-net goal.

Ales Kotalik, Stu Barnes and Miroslav Satan scored for Buffalo.

Bruins 1, Thrashers 0

ATLANTA -- Rob Zamuner scored a power-play goal late in the first period and John Grahame stopped 29 shots as Boston beat Atlanta.

The Bruins spoiled the home debut of Atlanta interim coach and general manager Don Waddell, who took over Thursday when he fired Curt Fraser.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Doug Weight assisted on St. Louis' first two goals as the Blues extended their unbeaten streak to four games with a victory over Columbus.

PITTSBURGH -- Martin Straka scored two of Pittsburgh's three goals in a second period in which an apparent Montreal goal was waved off, and the Penguins ran their winning streak to four.

Milan Kraft scored the first of two Pittsburgh goals in a span of 1:17 early in the period as the Penguins snapped an eight-game winless streak against the Canadiens.

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Darius Kasparaitis' first goal of the season, scored 56 seconds into overtime, gave New York a victory over Florida.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Scott Niedermayer scored a power-play goal with 49.5 seconds left in overtime to give New Jersey a victory over Washington.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Sean Avery had a goal and an assist in Detroit's win over Nashville.

Kris Draper, Boyd Devereaux, and Sergei Fedorov added goals for the defending Stanley Cup champions.

PHOENIX -- Sean Burke made 23 saves in his first game since spraining his ankle in late October as Phoenix beat Philadelphia.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Trent Klatt and Todd Bertuzzi scored two goals each as Vancouver routed Anaheim.

Oilers 3, Maple Leafs 2, OT

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Todd Marchant knocked in his own rebound at 4:35 of overtime to rally Edmonton over Toronto .

Marty Reasoner pulled the Oilers into a 2-2 tie at 14:03 of the third period with his fifth goal. Georges Laraque also scored for the Oilers, who had lost a season-high five straight, two in overtime.

Blackhawks 3, Sharks 3

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Tyler Arnason had his first three-goal game for Chicago, but fellow rookie Jonathan Cheechoo scored with 9:50 left as San Jose earned a tie.
