Funeral procession for slain officer begins at noon Wednesday

The funeral for Kenai Police Officer John Patrick Watson, who was killed Thursday in the line of duty, will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Kenai Central High School in the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium.

A funeral procession from Peninsula Memorial Chapel, Mile 6 of the Kenai Spur Highway, to the high school will begin at noon.

The eastbound lane of the Spur Highway will be closed at KCHS between 12:30 and 1:15 p.m. Drivers are asked to use Rogers Road to Lawton to Tinker during that time. The westbound lane of the Spur will remain open.

Those planning to attend the service are asked to park in the rear lot of KCHS and the lot of the Kenai Multipurpose Facility near the Challenger Learning Center.

A viewing is scheduled today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
