ANCHORAGE (AP) -- High winds Friday suspended the search for two missing Norton Sound teen-agers who were lost en route to Elim from Golovin, Alaska State Troopers said.
Searchers hope resume the search for Belinda Jessica Smith, 14, and Garrett Saccheus, 15, as soon as the weather allows, troopers said.
The teens left Golovin on snowmachines early Wednesday morning and were reported overdue about 10 hours later.
Until increasing winds halted the search at 2 p.m. Friday, rescuers were focusing on an area on the ice of Golovin Bay. Troopers said searchers believe the pair had been cutting across the bay on the ice and might have gone into about 15 feet of water.
Blizzard conditions were expected Saturday so it was unknown when the search would be continued, troopers said.
