Ninilchik Alumni Games

The Ninilchik High School boys and girls basketball teams had their annual matchup with the programs' alumni Thursday, and the prep squads pulled out exciting wins in both games.

Whitney Leman paced the Ninilchik girls effort with 18 points while teammate Molly Bosick chipped in with 16 points.

The Ninilchik Alumnae team was no pushover, featuring three former Alaska Class 2A Players of the Year in Theresa Chihuly (2000), Corrie Lindeman (1998) and Mandy Bock (1996). Alumna Tasha Leman was a first-team all-state selection last season.

"It was a real good game for our high school girls," said Ninilchik girls coach Dan Leman. "It was good test for us."

Lindeman led the Alumnae team with 11 points.

The Ninilchik boys clawed their way back from a 15-point deficit late in the game. The lead changed several times in the closing minutes, and the Wolverines took their final lead of the game with a pair of free throws with 15 seconds left to play.

The Alumni squad had three shots at the win, but none sunk.

Leman said it was the first time in several years that the high school team had been able to pull out a win in the alumni game.

Buck Kvasnikoff scored 29 points for the Wolverines, leading all scorers, while Jesse Hostetter scored 15 points.

Roger Bock Jr. scored 13 points for the Alumni while the Presley family -- Danny, Keith and Sean -- combined for 19 points.

Gary Cooper Sr., a member of the first Ninilchik basketball team, showed just how timeless the game can be with his play on the court, notching two points for the Alumni.
