Cab rides free tonight

Posted: Tuesday, December 31, 2002

In an effort to keep people safe on the roads tonight, central Kenai Peninsula taxicab companies will offer free taxi service in and around Kenai and Soldotna.

Alaska Cab Inc. will offer the free New Year's Eve service from 10 p.m. until 5:30 a.m., and Inlet Taxi Cab is giving free rides from 6 p.m. until 5 a.m.

"What we're trying to do is keep people safe, keep people out of jail and keep people from dying," said Alaska Cab owner Brent Hibbert.

"We expect to be extremely busy, so we're asking people to be patient and call ahead. We won't be doing any time calls, but if people need to get to work or catch a plane or get to the hospital, they should let our dispatcher know, and their call will be prioritized," he said.

For Alaska Cab call 283-6000 or 262-1555.

The company also will host a party at its office, which is between Soldotna and Kenai, and Hibbert invites anyone who would like to try their hand at dispatching to stop by. Call 262-5050 for information.

Inlet Taxi is offering free rides primarily in Kenai where the company is based but will go to Soldotna if needed, according to a company spokesperson.

Inlet Taxi can be reached at 283-4711 or 262-4770.
