The Soldotna High School girls basketball team continued to sizzle on its holiday trip to San Diego, defeating a team from Ocean Lakes, Va., 50-29 in the championship game of the 20th annual Aztec Holiday Classic.
The Stars went 4-0 in tournament play with a 34-point average margin of victory, a stat attributed to Soldotna's outstanding defense.
On offense, Soldotna was able to hit consistently from the outside, opening things up for the players battling in the paint.
Against Ocean Lakes, Jennifer Senette poured in 19 points while Rachel Besse scored 14 and Hillary Zobeck netted eight points. Lauren Christensen scored three points, Jenna Syverson and Stacey Foster chipped in with two points each and Brittany Howard scored a point.
Soldotna also had stellar defensive efforts from Erin Wolfe and Amy Breakfield.
Besse and Senette were named to the all-tournament team, and Senette was named the tournament's most valuable player.
