As community grieves for officer, may it seek to forgive violence

Posted: Wednesday, December 31, 2003

I personally did not know Officer John Watson. Why it was his shift on Christmas night that this tragedy occurred, no one will probably know. I assume he was just doing his job like so many officers across our country.

For almost 20 years he did watch over his community with diligence and forthrightness, never asking praise or the giving of laud much like his fellow officers before him.

Let us never forget that so many like him have gone before with the same diligence, the same strength of courage, the same duty to devotion to watch over a community that paid little attention until now.

Now a guardian of our town has been cut down for some ignorant reason by a selfish person, who instead of using common sense and peace chose to use violence. God help us to not so much understand this useless violence as to forgive it.
