Basketball registration deadline today

The Boys and Girls Club is taking registrations for its seventh- and eighth-grade basketball league through Tuesday. The fee is $50. Participants must have current Boys and Girls Club memberships. Registration forms may be downloaded from

Forms can be faxed to 283-8190 with a credit card number, postmarked by today or dropped off at the club between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The club will be closed today. For more information, call 283-2682.

Blood bank to remain open today

The Kenai Peninsula Center of the Blood Bank of Alaska will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. Donors can call to schedule an appointment, and walk-ins are welcome.

The blood bank reminds the community that the need for blood rises during the holidays, due to increased traffic and other accidents. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 260-5672.

Public health sets holiday schedule

The Kenai Public Health Clinic will be closed Thursday. The immunization clinics scheduled for the Elks Club in Soldotna will be canceled on those days.

The holiday hours for the clinic will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today. For more information, call 335-3400.

SeaLife center open on New Year's

The SeaLife Center will be open at noon Thursday. All other days during the holiday season, it will be open its regular winter hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (907) 224-6394.

Kenai Historical Society plans meeting

The Kenai Historical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant. Shirley Henley will be the guest speaker. Henley will discuss her travels and duties as the itinerant public health nurse in 1949 in Alaska. For more information, call George Ford at 283-7700.

Gardeners lecture series to begin

The Central Peninsula Master Gardeners will begin its 2004 lecture series with "How to Plan Your Garden Space" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Kenai River Center on Funny River Road. Landscape architect Nancy Casey will discuss place and space, function, how to use what you have in accessible space and the personal expression in your garden.

Dog classes slated at PenDOG

Peninsula Dog Obedience Group in Soldotna hold classes in beginning, intermediate, advanced and competition obedience. Puppy kindergarten meets weekly and is always open to new students. A beginning agility class is planned in February.
