Donations make for a merry Christmas
On behalf of the 21 recipient families of our Soldotna Elementary Christmas Kindness program, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the following community contributors for their very generous giving: Chevron, tesoro, Soldotna Elemntary PTA, River City Books and Three Bears.

Food bank support makes a difference
As a member of the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank Board of Directors I am pleased to express my personal appreciation and that of the Board and staff, and for the many peninsula residents you have helped to feed, for your gracious and generous support of the Food Bank in 2009.

Holiday meal a delight
A holiday meal starting with prime rib and ending with a brownie sundae was served at the Nikiski Senior Center in December. We would like to thank all the seniors who came and enjoyed the meal. We do a holiday meal annually and thos year we served 70 seniors. Also, we would like to thank those businesses that donated food for this meal: Peterkin Distributors, The Place Bar and Motel, Three Bears, Country Foods, Safeway, 40 & 8, Regal Foods, Bestor Construction anbd Ron Ayhens. These businesses and people are what makes this community a great place to live.

'She's a very lucky dog': Dog found with shotgun wounds, tied to tree
Twin Cities Veterinary Clinic took care of a dog Tuesday that had been found tied to a tree in the Swanson River Road area with apparent gunshot wounds to her head.

Snowmachine riders cross Swan Lake on their way to the Resurrection Pass Trail recently. The trail, located in Chugach National Forest between the Sterling Highway near Cooper Landing and the town of Hope, is open to motorized use every other year.

Troopers seek information on burglary
On Dec. 4, the Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a burglary of the Duck Inn Bar. Video surveillance of the business shows a suspect with a white cargo style minivan stealing items from the business. Items taken were the cash register with money, a new in the box Vizio 50-inch plasma television, and bottles of alcohol.

Evelyn 'Cissie' Clancy Cooper
Kasilof resident Evelyn "Cissie" Clancy Cooper died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009 at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna. She was 84.

Bruce Edwin Braden
Bruce Edwin Braden died on Monday, Dec. 21st, 2009 at his home in Knik due to a house fire. He was 54.

Kelcee Rae Bass
Lifelong Alaskan and Kenai resident Kelcee Rae Bass died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009 at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage with her family by her side. She was 19.

Run for the hills!
Despite it being what is traditionally the coldest time of the year, the wet weather which began prior to the Christmas holiday has continued to soak the peninsula.

New Year's bonfire planned

Kardinals sweep Cook Inlet Academy
The Kenai Central basketball teams swept Cook Inlet Academy Tuesday. The girls won 50-40 and the boys claimed a 57-42 victory.

A bowler's New Year's wish list
Before we bowl our way into 2010 at Alaskalanes, especially those of us who are planning to participate in the always fun, New Year's Eve moonlight bowling extravaganza, we first need to close out the books on what has been an exciting second half to the 2009 calendar year.
