Kenai resident Mary Ann Macrander died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at Alaska Regional Hospital, in Anchorage, after an unexpected illness. She was 52.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the Kenai Elks Lodge. The family plans to scatter ashes at a later date.
Mrs. Macrander was born June 17, 1958, in Virginia to William and Teresa Ake. She attended college in San Diego and Kenai, earning a degree. She married Joel Macrander in Kenai on Oct. 8, 1993.
Mrs. Macrander worked as a bookkeeper, most recently at the LeeShore Center.
Mrs. Macrander enjoyed crossword puzzles and any kind of word game. She was a dedicated Elk member and spent many hours of volunteer time supporting the Kenai community.
Her family said: "Once Mary set her mind to do something, it was always accomplished. She was a warm and caring person who will be greatly missed by all of her extended family and friends."
Mrs. Macrander is survived by her husband, Joel Macrander, of Kenai; sons Karl Massera (Heather), of Arizona; Mark Massera, of Kenai; daughter, Kayla Massera, of Kenai; grandchildren Malachi Massera and Emilie Price, of Kenai; Alexandria and Reed Massera, of Arizona; Levi, Jeran and Elijah Mathews, of Anchorage; brothers, William (Barbara) Ake, of California and Paul (Machelle) Ake, of Nevada; and extended family throughout the Lower 48.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Mary's name to the Elks National Foundation or the LeeShore Center in Kenai. Condolences may be addressed to: P.O. Box 531, Kenai.
