Setnet buyback conversation missing inriver limitations
About the reference to the east side setnet permit buyback in the Clarion on 8-24-18: no mention was ever made about limiting guides or dipnetters. Whatever outside nets are bought out, the increase of fish into the Kenai would be so marginal it would be difficult to quantify.
So many guides, so many guided dippers, so many derbies where king salmon spawn and so little regard for fish and their habitat, KRSA has once again led everyone down a dark alley. Holding derbies to sway politicians is one thing, but holding derbies to mitigate the same habitat damage it creates, oxymoronic. This is the irony of ironies.Setnetters and drifters alike have been cut to the bone. Try cutting down on inriver traffic, guides, and dippers. Then maybe initiate an honest dialogue.
