Golden Years
Dolores Rusin
You must be kidding!
Who came up with that?
It must have been someone
Who thought we just sat!
We’re wrinkled and shortened
But we forget that
We only remember
Before we were fat.
We played and danced
All day and night
We primped and dressed up
We were quite a sight!
On the outside we changed
But inside we’re not
When we look in close
We still think we’re hot!
Our pace is much slower
We make some mistakes
In spite what you see
We’re not putting on brakes
Independence we seek
We may look rusty
Let us do what we like
Even though we get dusty
Remember the days
When we taught you a lot?
Even though we are changed
We are all that you’ve got
Golden we’re not
Maybe brassy today
Just tolerate tarnish
You’ll be there someday.
