The Kenai Art Center’s annual fall auction and fundraiser is taking a different form this year as a silent auction hosted within the rear gallery. The exhibition, titled “Momentum,” features an array of art across mediums donated by local artists and is open at the center until Oct. 25.
Last week, works of pottery, paintings, a quilt, etched glass and more could be seen filling the center’s rear gallery, each accompanied by a list of bids. On some works, a series of back-and-forth bids filled the cards. Others were purchased outright for their full value.
“An art center takes a lot to stay up and running,” the center wrote online. “Funds from this show will go towards helping us acquire some much needed updates and repairs.”
Among those are a new roof, a new boiler, new gallery lighting and “many other things that our delightful but old building needs.”
“Momentum” will be open during gallery hours, noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday until Oct. 25.
